May Feats of Strength

As I alluded in my last post, I have a wee project on the go for May, though it's not certain to happen for a couple of reasons. The plan is to do two big events in the Lake District on back-to-back weekends. On May the 10th, I'm hoping to do the Fred Whitton Challenge (entry permitting), which entails cycling over all the major mountain passes, over 110 miles, culminating in the 1 in 3 road up and over Hardknott and then Wrynose.  Not to be underestimated but I completed the similar Etape du Dales last May, on very little training, and got on ok (silver medal). Then, on the following weekend, May the 17th, the plan is to run the Old County Tops fell race, over the 3 high tops of the old counties of Cumbria.  Starting in Langdale, the race covers 37 miles over Helvellyn, Scafell Pike and Coniston Old Man, finishing back in Langdale.  The race requires teams of 2, so I need a partner.  I have a couple of unconfirmed options here but nothing particularly definite. Entries for the Fred Whitton are released next week, so I'll know whether it's happening soon enough.  If I don't get in, I'll find some alternative. Update: Scratch this. I didn't get into Fred Whitton and my potential partners for OCT are all otherwise engaged. New plans must be made.
